My partner and I bought the warehouse at 5 short St Footscray in September 2001. We started construction in 2002 moved in 8 months later and converted the other half from the residence into 12 artist studios and gallery, which we ran for 5 years. Short St Studios were well supported from the moment they opened. Melbourne has a vibrant arts community with many serious practitioners in need of good studio space and facilities. The gallery worked but needed more energy than we could allow to draw bigger numbers of people over the river to the West.
